Here are some of the more memorable stories from the second quarter of the past year, thematically grouped. I'll try to get to succeeding quarters in the next few days, and will look to follow up on these trends in 2011.
High school & college
- Collegiate 7s championship a marketing breakthrough
- Division 3 championship on tap
- HS yellow cards raise unique US issue
United 22 Highland 17; Xavier 32 Gonzaga 10
Senior & representative
- Preseason camps primary path to Eagles
- RSL off-field matters view with playoff races
- RSL final: Every year a barnburner
New York Athletic Club 28 San Francisco Golden Gate 25 (halftime: NYAC 10-8)
Commerce, policy, & administration
Regarding the poor state of RSL, why do RSL teams play at 1pm on Saturday when most of their potential fan base is playing in their own matches? If the goal is top competition, why don't Canadain teams play in the Super League? Canadians should not be counted as "non-US" players either.

Int'l travel is a pain, hence no canadian sides, you are correct about Canadian players, we could lessen foreign count and allow canadians.
1pm is just pragmatic for travel with working players, you are correct though about time and potential fan base
Some teams alter game times though

Canada doesn't need the help of our RSL as they have a plan and are working it. They even post it on their site for the world to see - http://bit.ly/gGmEQY

That was terrific. No one said we Canada needed help and for that matter vice versatile as the sides are equal, it would just be good if players had the option of playing in either comp as a local not a foreigner.
Great doc and plan though
We should essentially plagiarize it

RSL needs to make fan attendence a priority if they ever hope to attract media or sponsors. In addition to having good on the field performance and solid financial backing for their own team, RSL should require each team should be required to get at least 500 people to every game. Leave it to each team to figure out how to achieve the goal in their local market. Fine the Clubs $5 for each fan they fail to deliver. 500 fans at each game is a good start. Should move to 1000 quickly.

Nyac tends to get fans when we are good AND the weather is nice. Crap weather hurts, playing crap rugby means no one comes
I hear you, you are right but teams travel and guys work, we get fans for playoff games, games v Life, OB and boston
As a fan I like to see new teams or teams I never see, like sfgg or teams with lots of good exciting players like opsb and I like watching life,Boston, and old blue games
1000 is a lot for us,we can go over 500 for ob, life, boston or a playoff game in good weather
We have ideas to get fans though
o club attracted close to 1000 when we played in fall
